At Star brite Solutions, we’re stoked to be part of an epic mission with U.S. Army Ranger Veteran Jimmy Armel, founder of Knot Lucky. Jimmy, an angler with a heart of gold, is helping combat vets deal with PTSD by getting them on the water. But he’s not stopping there.
On January 8, 2023, Jimmy embarked on an adventure to catch and tag Great White Sharks to honor his fallen Ranger brothers. The first shark in this mission was named after Christopher Shane Wright, a true hero who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010. The shark, tagged offshore of Savannah, Georgia, traveled an impressive 752 straight-line nautical miles before the tag released offshore of Massachusetts on July 7, 2023. The shark was at large for a total of 180 days.
The moment I felt the applicator tip penetrate the tough skin on this Great White Shark, I was in disbelief. We had a mission and a purpose, to get a satellite tag into a Great White, name it Chris Wright, contribute to research to help protect these beautiful animals and to get the stories of America's gunfighters out there that didn't make it home.
Jimmy Armel
Christopher, a Kentucky native, was a squad automatic weapon gunner assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in Georgia. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation for Valor, and the Purple Heart. A true Ranger, Christopher lived his life selflessly, serving his fellow Rangers and Nation.
We're Thrilled!
We’re thrilled to join forces with Knot Lucky and Gray’s FishTag Research, as we collectively bring awareness to the stories of America’s heroes and contribute to marine conservation. If you’d like to donate to the Knot Lucky Tagging Program, use the button below.
We partnered with Star brite and Captain Jimmy Armel to collaborate on a new study for our program. The heart and mission behind this study are to collect research data on Great White Sharks while bringing awareness to fellow fallen Army Rangers that Jimmy has served with.

The satellite tag data is already revealing insights into the shark’s migration and behavior patterns. With an average water temperature of 16 degrees Celsius (60 degrees Fahrenheit) and an average depth of 27 meters (89 feet), the data shows fascinating periods of deeper diving, linked to the shark’s location along the continental shelf. Notably, the shark recorded depths of 48 to 72 meters (157 to 236 feet) offshore New Jersey from June 7 to June 9, and similar depths offshore Nantucket, Massachusetts, from June 23 to June 25.
Join us in celebrating the life of Christopher Shane Wright and honoring all those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We’re pumped to support this epic initiative and look forward to continuing our collaboration with Knot Lucky and Gray’s FishTag Research.
